A 51-year-old African American man came to you for advice. He is a current smoker, has a BMI of 26 kg/m2, and does not have diabetes. His brother recently had a myocardial infarction at the age of 54 years. His blood pressure is currently 135/85 and his cholesterol profile indicates an HDL of 60 mg/dl and an LDL of 250 mg/dl. After discussions about his diet, you find out that he consumes large amounts of saturated fats and sodium. He further indicates he is consistently worried and anxious due to his brothers recent myocardial infarction.
