For this assignment, your task is to write a 600-700 word maximum thesis-driven essay with a strong focus on evidence and overall reasoning. The prompt for the essay is as follows:
A recent trend in conservation governance is a shift away from the emphasis on state-driven protected areas to increasing recognition of the potential roles of Indigenous and/or Community Conserved Areas. Should Indigenous and/or community-driven governance approaches continue to play an even greater role in global conservation in the years ahead? Why? Why not?
Using course concepts and readings, and drawing on some basic research (e.g. from the scholarly literature), write a two-page essay (maximum 700 words), in which you present a position on this issue. In your essay, be sure to do the following:
i) present a clear stance on this issue (thesis statement); and,
ii) provide a logical explanation for that stance drawing on and citing evidence from the literature.
While you are required to present a particular position (e.g. for, or against the increased use of Indigenous and/or Community Conserved Areas), be sure to identify both sides of this argument. The use of examples to substantiate your claims and argument is strongly encouraged.

Format according to APA. A title page, however, is not necessary. References must be included.
You will be graded on content/ideas/critical thinking (60%), organization, clarity and logical development of ideas (20%), required components/APA/grammar (20%).
