?Introduction

Film can serve as a vehicle for consciously or unconsciously reflecting the perspective of a society. The individual characters in a film may be constructed to portray certain values as well. To date, we have learned that our culture, levels of acculturation, family values/structure, and values within an ethnicity can manifest themselves symbolically in cuisine and health beliefs of individuals.

This Experience will Provide You an Opportunity to/for:
1. view a ?snapshot? of another culture through film.
2. understanding cultural as well as individual similarities and differ?ences.
3. compare film (such as foods, meals, family, etc.) with your own experiences.
4. discuss a film?s portrayal of a group and their values

To Prepare for the ?Food Culture? Film Report:
1. Read Chapter 3 (Intercultural Communication) and the relevant Chapter sections on the group whom the film is supposedly about.
2. Look at the schedule in the syllabus. Check to see what film/Unit would interest you.
3. Rent the ?Food Culture? Film.
4. After viewing to ?Food Culture? Film, complete the items for the report.
