Continuous quality improvement (CQI) is the responsibility of all nurses and is vital when addressing the challenges of the health care industry. Nurses are involved in most aspects of health care quality, which includes patient care, medication management, surgery, quality improvement, infection control, and more (Minnesota Department of Health, n.d.). Nursing duties include assessing and monitoring patients, and managing other staff members such as LPNs, CNAs, NAs, Mas, and more. Nurses can help educate patients and their family members regarding their diagnosis before discharge. There are many reasons why nurses serve a crucial role in improving the quality of health care.

Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) is a quality management process that encourages nurses to ask and address questions, regarding what can be done better (Southern New Hampshire University, 2022). An example of how this student would apply CQI in a previous position includes increasing access to health care. An issue at a previous place of employment included lack of access to mental health services. Patients would often have to wait 3-4 weeks between appointments to see their mental health provider. This student believes creating a goal for patients to have at least three appointments within 30-days would help to increase access to medical care.
