Goals for Training
The overall goals and benefits for training in the selected health organization are:
to improve clinical performance
to improve patient experience and outcome
to bolster existing talents and abilities to assist RN staff
to increase the level of awareness of the employee
improve ability in one or more areas of competence
increase an individual's motivation to do a good job
Objectives
To train and utilize certified nurse assistants (Cna's) more efficiently
To increase the medical surgical unit's productivity
Processes to Change After Training
CNAs are currently being used as sitters for patients on the medical surgical units. This is not conducive to the flow of patient of care and is not beneficial for the staffed Registered Nurses (RNs).
The processes that will change after training CNAs appropriately with their job duties is
CNAs will resume their duties on the med surg floor to assist nurses with patient care
Staffing
Hiring
Budgeting for unit
CNAs are certified to assist nurses and trained to help patients with activities of daily living, cleaning, and take vital signs. With CNAs being put on the floor to sit and watch only one or two patients, registered nurses not only have to do their skilled duties but to do all of the CNAs duties for their patients as well. CNAs play a crucial role in patient care since they are the clinical staff's eyes and ears, attentively studying patients and informing nurses of any changes. Utilizing CNAs as sitters defeats he whole purpose of what they were truly hired for.
