CONTENT
Topic: Describe how a concept from class can be applied in a real-life setting (teaching,
clinical, childcare, etc.) Your topic should relate directly to some aspect of the cognitive
development of infants, children, or teens. In your research, find a specific technique/method/
recommendation/etc. that has been developed relating to that concept. (E.g., your topic
should not be “scaffolding,” but could be specific scaffolding techniques used to teach math.)

o Examples include (but are not limited to): teaching methods based on Piaget OR
Vygotksy’s theory; techniques for scaffolding speech or language development;
alternatives to standardized testing; how media for children (TV shows, computer
games, etc.) can be used in ways that benefit cognitive development; diagnostic
methods or therapeutic treatments for children with ADHD; and MANY others.
o Choose a topic based on your interests! If you’re an education major, you may want to
focus on teaching techniques; if you’re an aspiring clinician, on diagnosis or treatment.
If you’re a parent, aunt/uncle, baby-sitter, etc., you may want to look into more
‘everyday’ applications to encourage healthy cognitive development.
