(READ BELOW REGARDING PUB MED)

PubMed, a database resource of the National Library of Medicine, comprises more than 25 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites.

You will find a link to the National Library of Medicines home page on the Web Links page of this course. Once you have navigated to the home page, select PubMed/Medline from the upper left margin of the page under the heading Databases.

On the PubMed home page you will find several tools to help you better understand the use of the research database. In particular, a PubMed Quick Start Guide, FAQ and Tutorials can be accessed and reviewed.

Once you have familiarized yourself with the basic capabilities and features of PubMed, navigate to the Clinical Queries page by selecting the appropriate link under the PubMed Tools heading. Here you will type a description of your research focus into the clinical queries search bar (for example: acne and vitamin A). Manipulating the wording, order and phrasing of your search criteria description may yield varied search results be creative in your approach. Results of your search will be displayed under one of three criteria headings: Clinical Study, Systematic Reviews and Medical Genetics. The Clinical Study category can be further narrowed by applying filters in the drop down box if desired. Meta-analysis search results will be displayed under the heading of Systematic Reviews.
